Messy Home

Company is heading over.

Those words can be dreaded when you are raising young children.   Toys scattered, clothes needing to be washed, a sink full of dirty dishes, and in desperate need of a long shower, you somehow need to pull it together to welcome guests into your home.

This happened to my husband and I when are two sons were ages four and one.   It was one of those days when try as I might, I had all I could do to brush my hair.

My immediate response after welcoming family from Canada into our home was to apologize for the house being a mess.   My Father in Law (God rest his soul) looked around the house and said words that will forever be treasured.

He said, “Terri, as I look around your home, I see dishes that need to be done, but a family that is well fed.   I see clothes that need to be washed, but children that always have clean clothes on.   I see toys laying around, but I also see two boys that are happy to play together.    I see you taking care of my son and bringing him joy every day.”

It may have been a nice way of telling me that the house was a mess, but our messy home no longer mattered.

We enjoyed the company, gave the children baths, read them a story, and they each fell fast asleep.

Looking in on them as we headed for bed that evening, I tucked them in and thought so much about the words my Father in Law said.   I prayed that we were laying a strong foundation for our children.

There is a quote by Gordon B. Hinckley that states, “You can’t build a great building on a weak foundation.   You must have a strong foundation if you’re going to have a superstructure.”

Starting in the insurance industry, there was no way I could possibly know what direction the business would take me in.

First, Life Insurance was the top insurance product offered.

Then came Health Insurance.

Then Medicare Insurance products.

They all have something in common – protection from messy situations and a tool to build a strong foundation.

Protection for families when a spouse dies suddenly leaving the family’s firm foundation shattered.

Protection when an illness of injury shakes the foundation of your financial future.

Protection from the high cost of prescription medications so that loved ones don’t have to sacrifice their health by not taking their necessary medications.

Life is going to be messy.

Although we all will have those days when our homes are cluttered, messy, and unkept, we can take action on building a strong foundation for ourselves and our families.
