The Greatest Gift of All

For me, it alway feels a little depressing to see the holidays come to an end.     Decorations are taken down and put away for another year.  Traditions such as family getting together don’t happen as often.

We go about our days heading to work, coming home and making dinner, doing chores, and then starting all over the next day.

We often overlook the gifts that each day holds.

Sitting at my desk right now, there is a Christmas card from my husband in my view.   To me, getting a card from either my husband or sons is one of the best gifts of all.   It means that they took the effort to go to the store, read the cards, and pick one out.

It means that they understand how much a card means to me.

This card is the best gift a wife could ask for.

Before getting married, my dream was to have a husband that loved me, respected me, and showed me kindness.   I didn’t dream of diamonds, gold, fancy cars, or a big home.   I dreamt of waking up next to the man I loved every morning, being excited to see my husband come home from work, eating dinner together, and always being grateful for one another.

It has been overwhelmingly clear how this dream came true.   We are both far from perfect and fall short in our efforts most days, but seeing the gifts that the day holds is part of the glue that holds us together.

The after holiday blues always hit me because the holidays are so priceless to me.   Watching anyone that receives a gift open it and be surprised is like watching pure bliss.

It always makes me wonder why the spirit of the holidays has to end when the spirit of the holidays can be as simple as:

Showing kindness to a stranger.

Reaching out to a neighbor in need.

Showing respect for one another.

Spending time with a family member.

Listening to one another.

Loving one another.

When meeting with a client, my goal is to listen to their needs, spend time with them, show them respect, reach out to help, and show them kindness.

It’s not always perfect, but if they realize how much of a gift they are to the world, my dream of helping another family with their insurance needs comes true.

The holidays are a priceless time and so is the rest of the year.

Each day is another opportunity.

Each day is full of possibility.

Each day can be filled with gratitude and hope.

Each day starts and ends with a dream.   I dream of more kindness, more compassion, less judgement, and more caring of one another.

That’s the greatest gift of all.
