Now that Open Enrollment has ended for 2016 (It ended on January 31, 2016), you can only enroll into a health plan if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). There are life events that can qualify you for a special enrollment period. The team at Balanced Care can help you enroll into a health plan if you have a life event such as:
- Have you recently lost health coverage in the past 60 days or do you expect that you could lose health coverage in the next 60 days?
- Did you recently get married?
- Did you recently have a baby?
- Did you recently adopt a child or have a child placed with you for Foster Care?
- Did you recently get divorced and/or legally separated and lost your health coverage?
- Did someone on your health plan recently die?
- Have you moved?
- Have you had a change in income?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you will probably qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. This means that you will have to fill out an application through Healthcare.gov to see if you qualify and provide documentation of the change such as change in address or income. It is important to note here that not all changes in income will qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period. It is crucial, though, that when any changes to your income occur especially if you are receiving a subsidy that those changes are reported immediately.
Changes will continue to occur when it comes to the Healthcare law. As licensed insurance agents and agents certified to offer health insurance plans through the Federal Marketplace (Healthcare.gov), we can help you determine if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. We are also contracted with every insurance carrier in the states of New Hampshire and Maine and can help you understand your health insurance options, calculate if you qualify for a subsidy which can help reduce premiums, and help you enroll in a plan so you are not subject to any penalty at the end of 2016.
