Have you ever had one of those weeks where you just cannot wait for the week-end to arrive so you can finally feel caught up?
After a very long week a few weeks ago, this is exactly how I felt. Our family experienced a loss of an Uncle and because of this, we did all we could to support our family.
Relatives arrived from out of town that needed a place to stay. There was more food to prepare, a wake and a funeral to go to, and company that needed support, and most importantly, time to be together.
Life took a detour and we had to adjust the direction of our lives for the week.
Because of this, chores around the house were left undone. The weeds in our garden were out of control, the grass needed to be mowed, and the laundry pile was in desperate need of getting done.
My plan was to get these things done or at least started on Sunday afternoon.
After church, we made a nice brunch together, cleaned up the kitchen, and I started the laundry. My husband suggested that we wait later in the day when it was cooler to do the outside chores.
Instead, we took a nap and my goodness, it felt great. I was rested, felt rejuventated, and felt ready to tackle the outside work.
My husband also felt rested, but had another idea.
Because it was hot, he suggested taking a ride to the beach. Normally, I may have hesitated especially when so much needed to get done, but I knew that this would be good for both of us.
Once there, we took a long walk, enjoyed the fresh air, had a little bite to eat, and headed home.
Because of the spontaneity of a Sunday afternoon, the week ahead was far more enjoyable.
The outside work was still there, but we took our time and did it a few evenings that next week.
Spontaneity was the best medicine after the long week and even more important, taught me that chores will always be there.
Family may not so be spontaneous with them.
You’ll all be better off because of it.
