Schedule for your Health – Your First 15 Minutes of the Day

How we spend the first fifteen minutes of the day can shape the way the rest of day will go.

For the next several weeks, my focus will be on the schedule we keep and how it relates to your health.    Earlier this week, I shared how getting a late start to your morning can make your day feel unorganized, more stressful, and chaotic.

Let’s face it – we have plenty to be stressed about right now and none of us need more.

To start off, think about how you are spending the first fifteen minutes of your day.   Are you checking your phone?   Are you checking  social media?   Are you answering texts?   Are you watching the news?

Answering these questions would definitely be a yes for me and because of it, my whole day felt as if it was harder to get anything done.

On the opposide side of that, taking a few minutes to start the day thinking about what I am grateful for, praying the Rosary, or doing fifteeen minutes of exercise will help me to get more done.

Everyone of us has a different way to start the day and it will look different for everyone, but instead of becoming overwhelmed about everything that needs to be done and feeling like it will never happen, here’s a few ideas to start your day off right.

  • Write down three different things that you are grateful for each morning – This puts your focus immediately on the blessings in your life and starts your day in a productive way.
  • If you have pets, take a few minutes to pet them, scratch their belly, or just love on them – Not only is this good for you, but they benefit as well.
  • Pray – This one practice of praying the Rosary each morning  takes my focus off of troubles by placing them in God’s hands.   It helps to bring peace to our days which in turn helps us to become more beneficial to not only ourselves, but our families and loved ones.
  • Prepare a nutritious breakfast – Instead of grabbing a donut, make yourself a smoothie with fresh fruits and vegetables.   It takes so little time and can start the day off by food choices that supports your health.
  • Read a book that inspires you or listen to a podcast that motivates you.
  • Exercise – There are so many ways to exercise that don’t include a long work-out routine.   A simple fifteen minute walk or turning on the radio and dancing to your favorite song will get your body moving and set your day up for success.
  • Make your bed – Starting your day off doing this will help you to feel that you have already accomplished something and can build on.
  • Drink a glass of water – Starting your day hydrated will help to remove toxins that have built up overnight, support a healthy weight, and stimulate metabolism.
  • Look outside and notice the beauty – Whether it is the sun shining, flowers blooming, or birds chirping, seeing the beauty that Mother Nature provides gives us hope that life continues to move forward.
  • Ask yourself who can you bless today.   Write a note, send a message, or pick up the phone – This can help you to take control of your feelings and in turn help others as well.

As Tim Ferriss states, “If you win the morning, you win the day”.

Let’s all win for ourselves, our family, and our health.
