For the last few years, I choose a word to think and meditate on each day in that year. In 2020, that word was ENOUGH.
Actually, it said, “I am Enough”.
This was chosen because like everyone else, insecurity can creep into my life very quickly. It doesn’t matter whether it is personal or professionally, doubt can overtake you. The year of 2020 brought me to my knees on more than one occasion. From the Pandemic, to everything that happened with the election that I still do not understand and friends suffering physically and mentally, that word was exactly what was needed to get me through each day.
It reminded me of things such as:
God has given me a family
God has provided for me financially with the business of Balanced Care
God has provided me with great clients
God has given me friends
God has provided me with a warm home and good food each day
God has given me tools that are used each day to provide me for what is needed
God has given me enough.
Was it always easy? No
Was it without pain? No
Were there days that I asked God why things were happening? On more than one occasion
The point is that even through difficult days, there was enough. Most of all, reading scripture has brought to life the very word that I thought I chose for 2020.
The truth is that God helped me choose the word, “Enough”. In Phillippians 4:12, it states – “I know what it is to be in need and what it is to have more than enough. I have learned this secret, so that anywhere, at any time, I am content, whether I am full or hungry, whether I have too much or too little”.
The year 2020 opened my eyes. With the extra time not meeting with clients during the first few months of the pandemic, it gave me “Enough” time to spend in prayer. That special time only deepened my relationship with Christ.
I prayed more than ever before and quite frankly, God provided me with strength.
The last few months, blog posts were put on the back burner. The Annual Election Period and Open Enrollment kept me very busy. The real concerns of some clients not wanting to meet because of the pandemic kept me on my toes with technology. Even with the clients that wanted to meet were more challenging as we all struggled to hear one another through masks.
As 2020 came to a close and I thought about what word would be best for me for 2021, nothing came to mind. When the New Year started, nothing felt right.
Although my busy season was now over and I could get back to writing blog posts that I love to do, subjects to write about weren’t coming to mind like they normally do.
You see, because of being busy, prayer time was also put on the back burner. Yes, I prayed, but it was more like hurry up and get it done. In our relationship with Christ, you are either moving forward or you are moving backward. There is no status quo. It’s like any relationship; you are either nurturing it or you aren’t.
Once this realization became more clear, I could focus more clearly (Kinda like how 2020 opened my eyes). I could focus on the joy of each day.
And there it was; the word for 2021 – Joy.
As it says in Psalm 28:7 “The Lord strengthens and protects me; I trust in him with all my heart. I am rescued and my heart is full of joy; I will sing to him in gratitude.
Joy will not simply happen to us. Taking that responsiblity, I am choosing to see the joy in each day, focusing on my loved ones and the joy they bring me, and seeking joy in every moment.
I am seeking the joy that Christ has brought each and everyone of us.
My focus is on him and the joy he continues to shower upon me.
