A Christmas Miracle

A Christmas Miracle

When you least expect it, God answers and miracles happen!

My last post left off with telling you about the healing that started happening when my husband was recovering from a ruptured disc.    Through physical therapy and movement, he started to heal.

It wasn’t easy and it seemed like it took forever.   His doctor told him that it would take months, howevever, if he still had symptoms after the three month period, surgery would most be most likely be needed.   This is because the possibility of the symptoms causing permanent damage was highly likely after a longer period.

The symptoms started in the middle of September.

October came and went.

November came and John had little glimpses of hope.   He was so happy to help with peeling potatoes on Thanksgiving morning.

December came and the discussion of surgery came up.   John was discouraged as not only was he now out of commission for the last three months, but recovery from surgery would require at least another three months.

At this appointment, the doctor explained the goal of the surgery and what it would do to help him.    He explained how his assistant would arrange the surgery and contact our insurance company for all the financial details.

To say that both of us were concerned about him having to go through surgery to replace a disc was an understatement.

I prayed for a Christmas miracle.

About a week later, his assistant called John and told him that the insurance company had several questions about the surgery and  at first, declined for him to have the surgery.

This felt like the biggest set back as we felt like the more time was being wasted not getting this taken care of, the higher the risk for him not healing fully.

I felt defeated and wondered why God wasn’t answering my prayers in a more timely manner.

On the 17th of December, we found out that the surgery was approved and it would happen on December 27th.

John went in for all the pre-op work two days later.    Tests were done and final questions were answered.

He was still going in for his physical therapy and on the morning of the 20th, he awoke to no pain.

He awoke to no symptoms.

I drove him to the physical therapist office where they were shocked.   They all watched him in awe of the movement he was now doing when a few days prior, he couldn’t do.

He was told to reach out to the surgeon to let him know.

John did that and guess what?

The surgery was cancelled.   As the doctor told him on that day, miracles like this happen.

I knew who did the miracle; it was God.

But wait – that’s not all.

Remember how I said that the insurance company declined him having a surgery at first.   On the 28th of December, we received a letter from the insurance carrier.

The letter stated that the surgery that was scheduled on the 17th was declined.   The reasons they gave him weren’t important.

For myself, I was in a hurry to see him get better, but God was also doing his work.   He knew the best time.

If the surgery wasn’t declined for the 17th, the prayer that I myself was asking for would not have happened.

Instead, God’s timing was perfect.

It was a Christmas miracle and one that taught me the value of God’s perfect timing – it’s never early, it’s never late, it takes much patience and a whole lot of faith, but it was so worth the wait.
