When social media was first introduced, it gave me joy to catch up with family and friends, celebrate with others as birthdays, anniversaries, and joyous occasions were shared, watch small businesses thrive, and most importantly, pray with others when prayer was asked for.
Sadly and most importantly throughout the last several years, it has become a place of division and censorship. Heartbreakingly, my guilt of getting involved with discusssions that would never be won on social media has happened on more than one occasion.
Although this was never the intent, it is my responsibility to own it.
Currently, division is happening in every aspect of our lives.
We are in a war of misinformation and that misinformation is hurting people. It is hurting families, friends, businesses, the country and the whole world.
Longing for the simpler days of children playing outside with dirty little hands and faces, watching their hair blow in the wind, seeing joy on their face as they pick a dandelion, seeing their smiles as creativity comes alive, and watching our older generation teach us skills such as gardening, cooking, and learning their history, it has become evident through prayer that it is time for me to take a break from social media.
Relationships are like building bridges, they require time and effort. But once they are built, they look strong, stable and beautiful. I’m choosing to put my effort into solutions and building strong bridges.
For me and for the time being, that bridge can’t be on a place where people tear one another down.
I’m not sure where exactly the time away will lead, but I do know one thing. Even when stumbling along, God continues to guide my every step.
Thank you all for your understanding and continued support. God bless you all.
