“Starting my own business is a dream of mine, but the benefits that I have through work make it difficult to leave.”
So many clients that come to me tell me that they would love to follow a passion they have, but just feel they cannot because of benefits like health insurance. Other clients tell me that they really don’t like their job, but stay because of the benefits. Other clients tell me that they aren’t making what they feel they are worth, but again, stay because of the benefits.
Today, let’s look at a few ways that you may be able to follow your passion. Let’s look at a few ways you may be able to leave a job that doesn’t bring you joy. Lastly, let’s look at a few ways to help you get paid what you are worth.
First, take a look at your spending plan. What expenses could be trimmed down? Just doing this may help you to start investing a little bit in your passion. Whether it is an online class or going back to school to follow your dream, you may be closer than you think just by cutting expenses.
Second, look at how you spend your time. Most of us could find another four to six hours a week if we really look. Studies show that Americans spend up to two hours a day on social media and another two hours watching television. If we cut those hours and spent even half that time pursuing a dream and/or a passion, we could earn enough to cover the benefits we are concerned about.
Third and probably most important is that every dream, every passion, and every new business takes time to develop. The Small Business Administration (SBA) states that 30% of new businesses fail in the first two years of being open, 50% in the first five years, and 66% in the first ten. The most common reason businesses fail is lack of planning.
With this said, it would make sense to stay at your full time work until the time that your business is up, running, and profitable. This way, you still have your benefits, but you are working on that goal of having your own business.
Networking marketing may be another option. Again, so many people dream of having more time or the freedom to travel when they want, take a day or two off randomly, or make a little extra to go on a vacation. They may like their job and appreciate the benefits, but don’t feel eager to get to work everyday.
Network marketing can provide a little extra income each month to help you save for going back to school, save to for the start up costs associated with starting a business, or just to put the money away for a long term goal.
Benefits such as health insurance, dental insurance, and disability insurance will come up often when changing jobs or looking to start a new business.
Balanced Care specializes in helping clients follow their dreams and passions. We help to provide benefits that you need or coach you through how to go about getting them as you work towards opening your own business.
