Last week, the world watched as 12 young boys and their coach were trapped inside a Thailand cave for 18 days. They were rescued four at a time over several days and now are all recouperating.
With this story came tragedy when a former Thai Naval Seal died after entering the cave to deliver three oxygen tanks along the exit route. His name was Saman Gunan and he died for his love of these children.
He is a hero.
If you have ever been inside a cave you would know that darkness surrounds you. The 25 year old coach who was trapped with the boys managed to keep them calm and strong knowing full well that he was unable to get them out by himself. They drank water from the walls of the cave and apparently, the coach helped the boys to meditate to keep them from panicking. Some may believe that he was responsible for them being there to begin with and although that is true, he is also responsible for keeping them alive.
That makes him a hero.
For all the people that put their own lives in danger to help with the rescue mission, they are also heros.
As I was praying for the health and safety of these boys and their coach, thoughts of clients came up and how they are heros.
A young single mother dies of cancer at the age of 38. She leaves behind three children. Before she was diagnosed with cancer, she took out a Life Insurance policy. The Life Insurance policy allowed her to take some of the death benefit before she passed to help with expenses. When she did pass away, there was still plenty of death benefit to protect her children’s dreams. She had planned ahead for who would raise them, where they would live, and put away for college tuition. She was a hero for her children when she was alive and a hero after her death.
A man still recovering from the tragedy of a stroke had both short and long term disability coverage. These policies allowed him to protect his most valuable asset – his ability to earn an income. While his family helps him to heal, they don’t have to worry about his financial ruin. He was a hero as he raised his children and is still a hero as his children care for him.
The common thread between each client we have the great privilege of working with is their desire to do what is best for their family.
They want to protect.
They want stability.
They want safeguards in place.
They want some assemblance of certainty in an uncertain world.
They want to be a champion for the most important cause there is – the love of family.
They are heros.
